nawawiDay.commentary

A condensed treasury — each phrase is a chapter in itself.

nawawiDay.extendedExplanation

A treasury hadith — eight distinct teachings in one breath. Each phrase is a chapter in itself: purification, dhikr, prayer as light, ṣadaqah as proof, patience as illumination, the Qur’ān as evidence for or against, and the seller of his soul.

Ibn Rajab dedicates dozens of pages to this single hadith. The closing line is the most piercing: every person sets out — kullu n-nāsi yaghdū — selling his soul. The merchandise is fixed (the soul); only the buyer differs. To Allah: liberation. To Shayṭān: destruction. There is no third option, no neutral state.

nawawiDay.fromScholars

"‘Ṣalāh is light’ — light in the heart, light in the face, light in the grave, light on the bridge of Ṣirāṭ. Whoever neglects it walks in darkness."

Ibn Rajab · Jāmi‘ al-‘Ulūm wa al-Ḥikam

"‘Ṣadaqah is proof’ of true īmān — because the lover of money does not part with it except under the pull of something he loves more."

Ibn al-Qayyim

nawawiDay.fiqhRulings

  • Wuḍū’ before every prayer is obligatory; renewing it without need is recommended.
  • Dhikr (subḥān Allāh, alḥamdu li-Llāh) carries enormous reward proportional to consistency, not volume.
  • Ṣadaqah given secretly is preferred over public; both are praised in the Qur’ān.
  • Patience (ṣabr) is of three kinds: on obedience, away from sin, and during calamity.

nawawiDay.keyBenefits

  • 1Worship has many doors.
  • 2Every soul is in transaction — the question is what you sell.

nawawiDay.warnings

  • ‘Qur’ān is a proof for you or against you’ — abandoning recitation, or reciting without acting, places it on the ‘against’ side.
  • Ṣabr is not passive resignation — it is active restraint while continuing to act rightly.
