Those who met one or more of the Companions, believed in the Prophet ﷺ, and died as Muslims — the second of the three best generations. Examples: Sa‘īd b. al-Musayyib, al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, ‘Urwah b. az-Zubayr, Muḥammad b. Sīrīn.

From ت-ب-ع (t-b-‘), meaning 'to follow.' They are the followers of the Companions.

'And those who followed them with iḥsān — Allah is pleased with them and they with Him.' (at-Tawbah 9:100)
