التعريف

The highest level of religion — to worship Allah with presence of heart, awareness, and excellence: 'to worship Allah as if you see Him; for if you do not see Him, He certainly sees you.' (Muslim)

النطق: iḥ-SĀN

الاشتقاق والجذر

From the root ح-س-ن (ḥ-s-n) — 'to be good, beautiful, excellent.' Iḥsān is to do something with utmost beauty and perfection.

الاستخدام في القرآن

'Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good (muḥsinūn).' (an-Naḥl 16:128)

الاستخدام في السنة

Defined directly by the Prophet ﷺ in the Hadith of Jibrīl as the third level of religion above islām and imān.

ملاحظات علمية

Ibn Rajab explained iḥsān as having two stations: the higher (worshipping as if you see Him — maqām al-mushāhadah) and the lower (knowing He sees you — maqām al-murāqabah). Both produce sincerity and beauty in worship.

التطبيق العملي

Before each prayer, pause and remember: Allah is watching this very ṣalāh. Let that awareness shape your concentration, posture, and recitation.
